I know that Supernatural is signed on for a 6th season, but the 5th season finale felt pretty darn final to me. The Winchester saga is thoroughly played out and I have no idea where they can possibly take it from here without jumping oceans of sharks.

Nevertheless, I sincerely hope the sixth season will consist entirely of Sam being evil and Dean shedding pretty yet manly tears.

Yeah, Spike is teh awesome and all and is clearly the People's Choice, yadda yadda, but I gotta say, Angel is more my type: big, broody, and funny as hell. We all love Spike because we get to see his evolution from villain to hero vividly unfold over six seasons; all Angel's transformations happen off-screen, in alternate dimensions and/or in his own head. Spike's a man of action whereas Angel is more cerebral. Angel has the inner monologue thing down whereas Spike is best playing off another actor. You expect Spike to be funny because he is such an outrageous character, but Angel's hilarity is delightful because it is so unexpected. Angel is Hamlet; Spike is Prince Hal.

Plus, IMHO, Angel looks better with his shirt off

Bret Michaels does seem, despite all the bloated excess and the has-been douchebaggery, to be a genuinely nice guy; yet he is content wallow in cliches and mediocrity, rehashing the same two-decades-old schtick, seemingly unaware he's become a mockery of his former self (yeah, I wouldn't have thought that was possible either) ... watching the sad denoument of the first season of Rock of Love, all I could think was, aw c'mon Bret, you are so much better than this.

Rock of Love is to Flavor of Love what Dundalk is to Woodlawn.

I guess if VH1 were to make a reality dating show like Hampden, it would star Evan Dando or some similarly washed-up alterno-grunge poster boy. And they could call it "Love or y'know, whatever."

The reality dating show like the other Hampden would star Vanilla Ice and be called "Wannabe in Love."

mmmm. Evan Dando.

When Pumkin spit on New York, it was one of the finest moments in the annals of reality teevee.

Cripes, but Xander is an annoying little bitch the first four eps. Does he get less obnoxious, or does the show get so awesome that he ceases to matter?

Also, I always thought that David Boreanaz was miscast as Angel: too healthy and strapping to have subsisted on blood for the past two centuries. But having seen him in the beginning of the series, NOW I GET IT. Woof.

I can't even tell you how much I've been loving I, Claudius. Seriously. If you enjoyed Rome, you've got to see this. Caligula makes Mark Antony look like a poncy he-bimbo.

The one thing that doesn't ring true is cut for spoilers, even though it's been around since 1976 )

My dad used to tell me, "You have the blood of Caesar in your veins!" Now, after having watched Rome and I, Claudius, I'm not convinced that something to go bragging about.

Is Caligula worth seeing?
wasabi_poptart: (comic_book_guy)
wow. [livejournal.com profile] weegoddess, you weren't kidding. Caligula is one LITTLE NASSY KID. Hee!

Also, I need a Claw-claw-claudius icon.

Did you know Patrick Stewart appears in I, Clavdivs?

A very young Patrick Stewart? With hair? Wearing a legionary uniform?

In the absence of Titus Pullo, this will do just fine.
wasabi_poptart: (comic_book_guy)
Meh. I dunno. Seems like any psychological advantage you might gain over your adversary by taking away his individuality and identity is undermined when you devote tireless resources of time, money, and manpower in getting him to divulge some secret he knows. ESPECIALLY if you don't even know if that secret is worth all the trouble.

It's kind of like calling somebody every hour, on the hour, to tell them you aren't stalking them.

Anyhoo, now that I'm finally finished with The Prisoner, I turn my attention to I, Clavdivs. The story begins a few years after the finale of Rome. Livia is awesomely evil but I really miss Titus Pullo.

Although I understand the majority of you on my f-list are huge House fans, and I respect that, I cannot watch that show.

Hugh Laurie is damnably attractive, Lord knows (like a thousand times more so now than as the Prince Regent, or as Lt. Barley, even), but the character he plays is just such an asshole it makes my head hurt.

Seriously, I've known people like that in real life and all I want to do is get as far away from them as possible.
wasabi_poptart: (comic_book_guy)
Three episodes into The Prisoner and I just don't get it.

Yeah, I know I say this about every teevee series I start to watch, and by the fourth episode I'm hooked, but really, what is it about this particular show that makes it so legendary and amazing? Because it's just kind of ... weird. And Patrick McGoohan has wonky eyes and acts with his browridges.
wasabi_poptart: (comic_book_guy)
Remember American Gothic? Oh, how I loved that show. Loved it, loved it, loved it. It's out on DVD now, so I've been rewatching it ... unfortunately, it does not hold up )

If I'm not completely hooked on Lost after the second episode, should I stick with it? Or do I just not get it, and never will? Because I'm not sure I understand yet what the big fuss is. Am I missing something?

Finished Season 2 of Rome last night. What a ride!

Highly recommended, unless you consider things like historical accuracy and logical time progression important.

Next up: Season 1 of Lost.

Hey, did anybody watch Beauty and the Geek 2 last night? Is the new crop of contestants worth checking out?

I am not ashamed to admit I thoroughly enjoyed the last one. I had such a crush on Chuck. The concept of geek as alpha male makes me giddy with lust.
