May. 10th, 2009 10:17 pmI've always wondered if I loved Kirk because he was played by Shatner, or loved Shatner because he played Kirk. Now having seen Kirk played by somebody else, the question is settled. Just as there are as many Hamlets as there are actors to play him, so too might there be that many Kirks, IF they do it right.
As I'm watching the movie, I'm thinking Shatner's eyes are green and this kid's eyes are blue, but it doesn't really matter in the slightest because of some correlation between them giving life to Kirk and Thomas Aquinas's teachings on transubstantiation, but it's like 10:30 on Sunday night so I'll have to get back to you on that. I mean, Ewan Macgregor didn't play Obi Wan so much as he played Alec Guiness playing Obi Wan, and that his eyes were a different color bothered me probably more than Jar Jar Binks did for that very reason. This kid did not play Shatner playing Kirk, so it was okay that his eyes were not the same color. Does that make sense?
Also, this Spock totally had it going on.
