casting heroes
Mar. 27th, 2008 11:20 amI did enjoy The Last Samurai a lot. I really liked the character of Nathan Algren. I was just sorry he had to be played by Tom Cruise.
I was also sorry Mad Max was portrayed by Mel Gibson. Not at the time, but now.
(For the record, I never thought Indiana Jones should have been played by anyone other than Harrison Ford. Nor should Han Solo, although Nathan Fillion comes from a damn fine alternate universe)
T. E. Lawrence could have been played by no one but Peter O'Toole. This is why I don't want to see the movie about Lawrence's life after he left the desert, even though he's played by Ralph Fiennes. I do heart me some Ralph Fiennes, but he's just not Lawrence. No way.
Viggo Mortensen was all wrong as Aragorn. Daniel Day-Lewis would have been so much better. By the same token, DD-L really wasn't the best choice for Hawkeye.
Pierce Brosnan made James Bond into a caricature, but he redeemed himself in The Matador.
