the trouble with "mimsy"
Mar. 22nd, 2007 09:58 amSunday we saw a preview for a movie that looked interesting, except for the title: The Last Mimsy. Apparently it's based on the short story "Mimsy Were the Borogoves" by Lewis Padgett, which takes its title from the poem "Jabberwocky" by Lewis Carroll.
Here's the problem: The word "mimsy" is an adjective describing the condition of the borogoves. Borogoves is the noun being described. However, in the title of the movie, "mimsy" is used as the noun.
Without knowing anything about the movie, I'm annoyed they didn't call it The Last Borogove.
I can't be the only one who notices these things.
