I think that if you have not seen Firefly, you should see Firefly. Then after that you should try Castle and Suits. I recommended seeing Firefly first because of the cast overlap with the other two shows. Castle makes a number of references to Firefly. Suits contained a cast member from Firefly, and then some of the Game of Thrones cast members come into play in the most recent season which would not necessarily be on Netflix yet.
I think you should try The Wire. I don't know if you will like it or not, but you should try it anyway.
