Please help right away--we've got to stick together

Congress is about to vote on amending the U.S. Constitution to deny marriage equality to same-sex couples.

Never before has our Constitution been amended to take away anyone's rights. Yet our Senators will vote on this amendment in the next 48 hours.

It's urgent that we speak up now. This hateful divisiveness has no place in America. Please join me in saying so, at:

Equality in marriage is the civil rights issue of our generation. We can't let anyone, or any group, be singled out for discrimination based on who they are or who they love.

Thank you.

I sent an email to arlen spector (career republican, good at straddling lines) and "he" wrote back "while I support families with this stuff blah blah blah that I voted for amending the constitution is a very serious matter blah blah blah that must be seriously considered." I have no idea how he's going to vote after that email. It could be sent to people for and against the amendment.

Yeah, I got a similar reply from Elijah Cummings, who, though he is generally liberal, didn't say one way or the other how he's voting. I believe the letter said "I will give this issue great consideration".

I'm reasonably certain both Mikulski and Sarbanes are going to vote this one down, but you really can't be too sure about anything anymore. No reply from either of my emails yet.
