Tell me, how is it possible that a clutch should fail at 53,000 miles?

It has to be something else. Maybe a rat has chewed through the cable or something.

Where did you have it serviced for the clutch that's in there now. I had a friend on LJ recent have one fail at 15K b/c there was some work that had to be done on another part (like resurfacing it or somesuch). The mechanic forgot to do that part, the life was very short on the clutch.

Is it the whole clutch or just a part like the pressure plate?

Admit it. Late at night, when the pets are asleep you love to go out onto the boulevards of Baltimore and pop wheelies. I know it's true. Don't lie.

rats ate through a bunch of cables and whatnot in my engine compartment in my last car (and they were starting to build a little nest in there!!), so i vote rats.
